I have always struggled with the concept of time management, mostly because I have a tendency to be too involved in school work and extra-curricular activities. My biggest issues with time management is the fact that I rarely fit sleep into my schedule and when I do it is early in the morning or late into the afternoon. I am a rabid cat-napper, so I mostly fall victim to sleep consuming my schedule. When it comes to doing actual work, I am easily distracted by facebook, texting, or the ever-so time consuming and evil game bejeweled blitz. Despite my issues with time management, I always seem to accomplish everything I set out to do, no matter how out of breath I am at the end. In fact, being busy and keeping busy helps me manage my time better because it makes me more conscious of time and how mine should be spent. I am actually the laziest during the summer and winter months when I have nothing to do or work on, this is equally true for my weekends. I much more prefer having a regimented schedule, no matter how packed it is. I feel more accomplished after it is all done as well. Currently, my most difficult days out of the week are Tuesdays and Thursdays when I have the least to do and a 10:00 AM class. I often wake up between the hours of 7:30 and 9:00AM riddled with anxiety because I feel like I'm missing something. Although I may dread 8:30AM music theory class, I appreciate it because it gets me up at a reasonable hour and gets me started for work throughout the day. I suppose I could alleviate the stress of time management by not procrastinating and being more conscious of how I spend my time and how to enjoy the free time I have.
I understand about the regimented schedule--I'm sort of that way, too. In high school it's not that hard--you only have so many hours that YOU have to fill up. Now, though, the regimentation of your schedule falls largely to you. (Given all the various demographics of your age group, it will likely be that way throughout your life--telecommuting and all, you know.)
ReplyDeleteSleep is a big deal. And, though naps are great (and, honestly, kinda fun), they can't replace a long nighttime sleep. Figure out how much sleep at night, adding an hour more than you think, because you're already sleep-deprived and not quite in your right mind. Then try to stay up all day to reset your clock and go to sleep at a reasonable hour at night. And treat the fun online stuff as just that--a treat. Theory homework first, and then reward yourself with the Blitz.
Ohhh Victoria, besides our dislike of Ave Verum we have a lot more in common. I have an 8:30 class EVERY day..so that keeps me more on a tight schedule. But, during the afternoons I also find it hard to make myself sit down and do work instead of napping and then staying up late doing work.
ReplyDeleteOh! I am in your boat! I am also more happy and more efficient when I have a larger workload. I also, am victim to over-burdening myself too. I think you have the strength to do so much though! As for cat-napping, that's probably not too bad of a thing. I think it is probably what keeps you healthy during times of stress (which if you're like me, is almost all day every day). You can do it!!
